Multiple Indian metros connect directly and KUL is efficient for transfers to Langkawi.
Alternative: AirAsia via KUL to Langkawi on one ticket to avoid a separate domestic booking.
✅ Domestic flight (1 hr) — do not attempt the 8-hr drive + ferry
Flights are frequent and cheaper than the bus + ferry combination in total travel time.
Alternative: Overnight bus to Kuala Perlis + 1.5 hr ferry for backpacker budgets.

The cable car is the experience; the old winding road is slow and jammed on weekends.
Alternative: Direct Genting Express bus from KL Sentral (MYR 15).

Grab is everywhere in Malaysia
Cheap, safe and cash-free. In Langkawi, Grab can be scarce at night — book hotel taxis.
Rent a car in Langkawi
MYR 70-100 a day, right-hand drive like India, and the island has no traffic. Best freedom per rupee.
Beware the KL taxi 'no meter' routine
Always insist on the meter or use Grab. Budget taxis at Bukit Bintang are notorious for fixed fares.

Ask for 'sayur sahaja' (vegetables only) or head to a banana-leaf place — the safest vegetarian bet in Malaysia.

- Malaysia visa for Indians is currently visa-free with an MDAC digital arrival card — fill it 3 days before flying, it is mandatory.

- Avoid weekends at Genting Highlands — cable-car queues cross 2 hours.
- Do not swim at Pantai Cenang during the monsoon warning flags (Jun-Sep).
- Skip the 'cheap city tour' street brokers; licensed guides cost the same and actually know the sites.
