Thailand remains the highest-volume international destination for Indian travellers for one reason: it works for everyone in the group. This route does Bangkok for culture and shopping, Pattaya for the coral islands and shows, then Phuket for the proper beach finale. Flights land and depart from the same hub, so transfers stay cheap.

Best route & how to travel it
✅ Direct flight — IndiGo, Air India, Thai Airways, Thai AirAsia
Bangkok has the most daily frequencies from India, so fares are the lowest of any Thai gateway.
Alternative: Fly into Phuket first in monsoon to avoid backtracking.
✅ Private van (2 hrs) — do not take the shared bus with luggage
Door-to-door and you can stop at the Bang Saen seafood shacks.
Alternative: Bus from Ekkamai terminal, INR 300 pp but add 1 hr for hotel transfers.
✅ Fly from Bangkok — do NOT attempt the 14-hr road transfer
A road trip south costs the same as the flight once you add an overnight halt.
Alternative: Overnight VIP bus (INR 1,400) for hardcore budget travel.

Speedboats cover 5-6 spots in a day; the big ferry only reaches two.

Pre-book island tours with a licensed operator
Life jackets, insurance and a Thai-speaking guide come standard. Beach-side touts rarely have all three.
Grab works in Bangkok and Phuket
Pattaya has limited Grab — use hotel taxis or Baht buses (shared songthaew, 20 THB a hop).

Say 'jay' (vegan/vegetarian) or 'mang-sawirat'. Look for yellow 'jay' flags during the October vegetarian festival.

What to avoid
- Never leave your passport as a deposit for a jet ski — that is the classic Phuket/Pattaya scam. Pay a cash deposit and photograph the jet ski.
- Avoid tuk-tuks without a negotiated fare in Bangkok; the meter always wins.
- Do not buy gem or tailor 'factory outlet' deals from street promoters — fixed 5x markups.
- Respect temple dress codes and the no-touching rule for Buddha statues; some fines are enforced.
- Monsoon (Jun–Oct) closes Phi Phi's east-side snorkel spots; keep a flexible tour date.
